The China Science Fiction Convention 2020 kicks off at the Shougang Industrial Park in Beijing’s Shijingshan District on November 1, staging enthralling science fiction shows.

The quickly evolving technological innovation is becoming the primary driving force of China’s development. By increasing support for basic research, stepping up original innovation, optimizing the layout of disciplines and that of science and technology research and development, and promoting interdisciplinary integration, the country has been improving its science and technology structure. Now, applications of new technologies related to such fields as aerospace, ultra-high voltage power transmission, deep-sea submersible, and robotics are improving both the country’s development quality and people’s lives.

China will accentuate the central role of innovation in its modernization drive with the independence in science and technology as an important strategic support for the country’s development. In addition, its scientific and technological development will target the global science frontiers, serve economic development, strive to fulfill the significant needs of the country, and benefit people’s lives and health, according to the proposals for formulating the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035, which were adopted by the fifth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee held in late October 2020. Moreover, the country will further streamline its system of innovation, supported by the implementation of the strategy for invigorating China through science and education, the strategy on developing a quality workforce, and the innovation-driven development strategy, thus further building China’s strength in science and technology

Meanwhile, major national science and technology projects rolled out by China have also contributed to the progress of the human society as a whole, further expanding the horizon of the human development.
