On February 2, Beijing welcomed its first snowfall after the Spring Festival. The work of preventing and controlling the coronavirus in Beijing continues to be carried out with great intensity as crowds of people return to their homes and work in the capital.

To eliminate potential health hazards brought by the returning people, the Beijing West Railway Station have adopted an array of preventative measures, including administering multiple temperature measurements, having passengers fill out personal information forms, and streaming precautionary measures, which all contribute to comprehensively curbing the epidemic. Infrared thermometers and thermal imaging cameras and systems designed for non-contact temperature measurement are set up at the exits to monitor the temperatures of passengers as they pass by. "The equipment can conduct mass temperature screening instantly without stopping each passenger at the exit. This effectively shortens the time for temperature check and relieves the pressure on the station caused by the surge of returning passengers during the Spring Festival travel rush," a train station staff member said. The equipment automatically sounds an alarm when it detects an abnormal temperature of a passenger, alerting the station temperature tester to isolate the passenger to conduct further testing measures in order to determine whether they are infected with the novel coronavirus. "I hope that passengers can give us their support, understanding and cooperation, and jointly shoulder their social responsibility."

Bus stations, subway stations, and taxi dispatching stations outside the Beijing West Railway Station have all taken corresponding steps for preventing the epidemic from spreading. "Please wear masks when taking public transportation for your own and others' health and safety," "Sterilized Today," and "Try to wear masks when going out"... such signs explaining ways to prevent the spread of the epidemic and promoting health awareness are posted on conspicuous locations on the walls and windows of public transportation.

The Beijing West Railway Station together with all other transportation departments have taken effective measures to erect a tight barrier for epidemic prevention and control, to guarantee the smooth railway passage and ensure the maximum safety of the passenger flow back to Beijing during the Spring Festival.

On February 2, passengers arriving in Beijing by train left the Beijing West Railway Station. Due to the impact of the epidemic, almost all of them were wearing masks.

To reduce the retention time of passengers and avoid congestion, an express passage way has been setup at the exit.

In the station, thermal imaging cameras and systems for non-contact temperature measurement are set up to monitor temperature of passengers. The staff stationed at each exit of the station wear masks, protective spectacles, and other gears, and keep a close eye on the dynamic data coming across the display.

Passengers quickly pass through after being tested by infrared thermometers, and the status of the passengers is displayed on the screen in real time. In the case of an abnormal temperature, a warning will be given immediately.

Thanks to the coordination of the staff in the station, passengers leave the station in an orderly manner.

In addition to the automatic device temperature detection, staff in the station also carry out random manual temperature testing of passengers. At the same time, a second test is conducted on the passengers who alerted the equipment. If any abnormalities are detected, isolation measures will be taken immediately.

Passengers who have passed the temperature test walk through the northeast exit. Children together with their parents all wear masks, ready to run to their homes in Beijing.

Train station staff distribute handouts on epidemic prevention to passengers as they pass by to remind them to take measures to strengthen prevention and make joint efforts overcome the present difficulties.

Passengers wearing protective outfits check traveling routes via their mobile phones at the entrance of the subway station.

A family of three hurriedly pass by the subway station. Spring Festival is a critical point in the spread of the epidemic, as masses of people flock back to Beijing from their hometowns like birds returning from their migration to start a new year's life.

Passengers after leaving the railway station wait for buses at the bus stop. The bus stations outside the Beijing West Railway Station have also taken supporting measures including doing regular sterilization to ensure the safety of passengers.

Life still goes on despite the danger posed by the epidemic as people hurry back to Beijing from all over the country and head to their respective destinations in the capital. Beijing is bound to have a bright future thanks to everyone's unremitting efforts.
