The whole-process people's democracy has comprehensively and extensively promoted the development of the human rights cause in China.

Democracy is a common value shared by all humanity. The pursuit of democracy serves as the driving force behind China’s development. Following the roadmap towards the great national rejuvenation through reform and opening-up, targeted poverty eradication, efforts to realize modernization, and the pursuit of common prosperity, the Chinese people have shaken off poverty and now live well-off lives with dignity because of the effective implementation of a people’s democracy.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) circulated the latest version of its Democracy Index on February 10, 2022. The title “The China Challenge” reveals much about global insecurities.

At the main entrance of Zhongnanhai in downtown Beijing where the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the offices of the State Council, China’s cabinet, are located, stands a traditional screen wall inscribed with a slogan in Chinese, meaning “serve the people.” This concept is the base to understand how China is governed in contemporary times, the period in which it has reached its greatest dynamism, resilience and size in its entire history. It is also the starting point to understand “common prosperity,” currently a hot topic across China and abroad. Burgeoning inequality is a problem shared in most of the world, but the way to tackle the problem differs. The meaning and scope of China’s efforts have been misunderstood by some.

A growing number of enterprises have responded to the call of common prosperity, a topic which has become the center of much discussion recently. “How to contribute to common prosperity is becoming a contemporary manifestation of corporate social responsibility (CSR),” said Qu Yongyi, Party secretary and deputy director of the Institute of Industrial Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, adding that there is consensus among many on its role and direction.

In the picturesque county of Suichang in Zhejiang Province, east China, a century-old culture flourishes in the town of Suichang together with a drive to develop the digital economy with beautiful natural landscape. Today it boasts a digital green valley. Established companies as well as startups are operating from this space, exploring innovations that combine the ecology, culture, and digitalization.

"Some regions and some people may prosper before others do, and then they can help other regions and people to gradually do the same," the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping told a U.S. business delegation on October 23, 1985.

In the 1990s, chief architect of China's reform and opening-up Deng Xiaoping indicated, “When the economy is developed enough it will be the time for the country to seek common prosperity.”

It is rare for a British prime minister to announce the intention to pursue a policy pioneered by the People’s Republic of China. It is rarer still for that to be a politician of the populist Right. And yet, that is what happened when Prime Minister Boris Johnson delivered his long-awaited speech at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester recently. He did not use the term “common prosperity” but that is what he meant.
