On October 9, on the eve of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Erhai Forum on Global Ecological Civilization Construction was convened in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China’s Yunnan Province. The forum, with over 300 attendees from home and abroad, aimed at promoting a better understanding of Xi Jinping’s thought on ecological civilization inthe world, as well as introducing China’s efforts in biodiversity conservation and advancing global ecological environment governance.
At the forum jointly organized by China International Publishing Group (CIPG), Yunnan provincial government, and China Public Relations Association, Wan Gang, vice chairman of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, delivered a speech via video link. Leaders from China International Publishing Group, Yunnan provincial government, China Public Relations Association, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, ASEAN Secretariat, and New Development Bank attended the forum in person and delivered speeches on the occasion.

Centered around the theme of “Building an Ecological Civilization Together for a Beautiful Planet,” attendees from China Communications Construction Co., Ltd., the Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm in Hebei Province, and the people’s government of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, shared their practices and experience in protecting ecological environment. Meanwhile, leaders from international organizations and overseas think tanks, such as the ASEAN-China Center, the Bridge Tank, and Berlin Forum on Global Politics exchanged their ideas on the building of ecological civilization at the forum.

Attendees then witnessed the inauguration of the Erhai Forum Secretariat, announced to be permanently located in CIPG, with branch offices in Kunming and Dali. According to the secretariat, the Erhai Forum will become an annual meeting from 2021 onwards. In addition, multilingual versions of “Keywords to Understand China: Ecological Civilization,” published by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, were also released at the forum.

The one-day forum had four parallel sub-forums, respectively covering topics of Chinese wisdom on ecological civilization construction, international communication on ecological civilization construction, “dual-carbon” goals: new opportunities for corporate image construction, and green finance to bolster ecological civilization construction.
