IT took a whole year to build a 3.8-kilometer long road leading to a village, with an average progress of only ten meters per day.

Such a difficult country road was built to link Abuluoha Village in Butuo County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, with the outside world. Deep in the Jinsha River Grand Canyon, the village of just over 250 people is surrounded by mountains on three sides and cliffs on one side. In the past, villagers left the village either by the dangerous ropeways under the mountains or on cliff-top trails that would take three hours to traverse.

In June 2019, construction of a country road began. On June 30, 2020, Abuluoha welcomed a bus at the village entrance for the first time as the last administrative village in China to get road access to the outside world. Villagers can now get out of the village in ten minutes by bus.

The newly built roads wind through the mountains of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, bringing hope to those once poverty-trapped isolated villages.

Excavators are unable to reach the village due to its rugged terrain. The construction company uses an Mi-26 heavy helicopter to airlift an excavator on December 5, 2019. Wang De
