Former Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz met the press during the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2019 being held in Boao Town, southern China’s Hainan Province.

The former prime minister said the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping has attracted global interest. And it has attracted interest because it is quite an unusual initiative and it benefits the countries that are part of it. It creates jobs, enhances connectivity, and promotes trade and investment.

“And for any developing country like Pakistan, investment in infrastructure is key to economic growth. What Pakistan needs and what China is providing fit perfectly,” says Aziz. “And eventually, I think more and more countries will be willing to join the initiative.”
