At the 8th CIIE, the Swedish technology leader Hexagon showcases innovations that elevate the quality of life and drive smart manufacturing.

At this year’s China International Import Expo (CIIE), many manufacturing companies introduced their latest product innovations. Among them, Hexagon, a Swedish giant in measurement technology, showcased how it transformed precision into progress. The company unveiled a range of new products that blend advanced engineering and automation with smart manufacturing.
Emanuel Viklund, executive vice president of Global Marketing & Sales of Hexagon, told China Today, “I think that the quality of life, that’s really what we want to help and contribute to, through all of the different products that we are a part of the manufacturing process of.”
That vision is made possible by solutions showcased at this year’s CIIE. He explained that Hexagon’s measurement technology featuring optimum sensors that can precisely scan a vehicle’s structure to ensure components like doors are perfectly aligned and tightly sealed, preventing noise from entering the cabin, thus not only improving the car’s aerodynamic efficiency and energy performance, but also enhancing the quietness and comfort of the driving experience.

In addition, Hexagon is also launching a humanoid robot called AEON for industrial scenarios. Inspired by existing wheeled robots in factories, AEON integrates human-like dexterity with high mobility, allowing it to operate seamlessly in complex environments, from flat factory floors to areas with narrow stairs, offering a glimpse into the future of intelligent industrial automation.
A member of its R&D team told China Today that AEON stands out for its exceptional awareness, agility, and versatility. Equipped with 12 precision cameras, AEON possesses advanced spatial awareness, enabling it to perceive and interact with its environment in real time. Its unique two-wheel base allows it to move up to four times faster than a human, combining speed with stability and flexibility.
Hexagon has established a strong and collaborative presence in China, characterized by close knowledge and skill exchange between its Chinese and international teams. While the company brings advanced global technologies to China, its Chinese R&D team also plays a vital role in developing innovative solutions that are now being adopted worldwide.
Viklund highlighted the success of the optimum sensors, a measurement technology developed by Hexagon’s Chinese engineers and later adopted across global markets. This cross-border innovation is now supporting the worldwide expansion of Chinese automotive brands.
Another example is the “machine trainer,” a virtual training tool created by Hexagon’s Chinese team that enables users to learn CNC machine operations without requiring physical access to the machines. This product has become a global success, demonstrating how the company’s investment in engineering education and workforce development is fueling international innovation and advancing smart manufacturing solutions.
“I think one important thing is that manufacturing is not just happening in one location in one country. Most of the products built today have a global supply chain and collaboration,” said Viklund as he stressed the importance of connection and cooperation in developing smart manufacturing. “In China, we have a very strong base for that.”
Viklund said China’s appeal lies in its world-leading manufacturing ecosystem and long-term policy vision. “China’s ecosystem is one of the most advanced in the world for manufacturing and building high-quality products,” he noted, adding that the country’s forward-looking five-year plans offer a stable foundation for innovation and growth, key reasons why his company is committed to being part of this dynamic market.
