It will remain on view until October 26, 2025.

The exhibition “The Greeks: from Agamemnon to Alexander the Great” opens on July 8, 2025 at the World Expo Museum in Shanghai.

The opening ceremony was attended and addressed by Ambassador of Greece to China Evgenios Kalpyris, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism Jin Lei, Director of the World Expo Museum Liu Wentao. Also present were the Consul General of Greece in Shanghai Georgios Partheniou and the Head of the Public Diplomacy Office of the Consulate General Dimitrios Foukis.

In his remarks, Ambassador Kalpyris emphasized the exhibition’s role in enabling the Chinese public to comprehend the breadth of Greek culture across time, providing historical context for the cultural exhibits. “I am confident that this exhibition will offer the visitors the opportunity to gain a better understanding of why the Greek civilization is not only the cradle of the Western civilization, but also a civilization with a century-old presence and a strong footprint in Asia as well,” stated Ambassador Kalpyris.

Jin Lei highlighted the exhibition’s significance for bilateral cultural ties, noting, “The superb presentation of ‘The Greeks’ further strengthens the cultural-focused sister-city cooperation between Shanghai and Athens, opening a window for Chinese audiences to experience the enduring charm of Greek civilization up close.
