Sanya's "Around-the-City Highway" Opens
A highway that circles around south China's tropical city of Sanya and links its major tourism attractions opened on Jan. 18, local officials said.
The "Sanya Around-the-City Highway" is part of a national highway project that will link the city of Tongjiang in northeast China's Heilongjiang province with Sanya in the southernmost island province of Hainan, said Wu Yanjun, vice secretary of the Sanya Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The highway will shorten journeys between the city's major tourism resorts, railway station and airport, as well as ease traffic jams in the city's downtown area, Wu said.
The highway, built at a cost of 2.2 billion yuan (348 million U.S.dollars), is 30.46 km in length.
The coastal city of Sanya is a major tourism destination.
