China Highly Concerned about the Riots in Kazakhstan

China on Tuesday said it is deeply concerned about the recent outbreak of violence in Kazakhstan.

"China is highly concerned about the riots in Kazakhstan and supports Kazakhstan's measures to restore social order, protect people's lives and property, and ensure the country's stability," Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said at a daily press briefing.

Liu's comments came after ten people were killed in clashes between oil workers and police at a ceremony celebrating Kazakhstan's independence in the western city of Zhanaozen last Friday.
