China Aims to Promote Direct Registration of Social Organizations

China's Ministry of Civil Affairs has encouraged local civil affairs departments to open green channels to facilitate the register of social organizations in a bid to strengthen the country's charity and social welfare services.

"Local civil affairs departments should promote social organizations in charities, social welfare and other fields to directly apply for registration while supervising them in accordance with laws and regulations," said minister Li Liguo at a meeting on next year's civil affairs work.

According to Li, several provinces and municipalities, including Guangdong, Beijing and Hainan, have already set up green channels to directly handle the registration of social organizations or simplified the approval procedures for them.

Li revealed that the central government allocated 200 million yuan (31.68 million U.S. dollars) this year to support social organizations to participate in social services.

According to Li, the ministry will issue policies on preferable tax reductions for social organizations next year and boost services and financial cooperation between government departments and social organizations.
