Life

Earlier this year, eight of my college classmates and I went to Yongping, Dafang in Guizhou Province to help teach the children living in its mountainous areas. During our stay, we took over several courses and opened a couple of new ones. It was the first time local kids got to learn English, watch movies or even to use a painting brush. I never realized before how early children of their age have to get up to walk the long cragged path to school. Their parents have left them to seek jobs in cities but you would never know how lonely they are from looking at them. The boys and girls never complain; instead, they are optimistic and grateful. I now feel a stronger urge to help others, delighting over the thought my efforts might change things for the better in someone's life.
