23,441 Corruption Cases

The 2010 work report by the Supreme People's Court of China reveals courts at all levels closed 23,441 cases of corruption and bribery last year, and sentenced 24,406 criminals; the rate is up 6.83 percent and 9.41 percent respectively from the previous year. A total of 4,310 malfeasance cases were concluded with 4,302 criminals convicted, 8.56 percent and 6.99 percent more than those brought to justice in 2009. One case was against former vice-president of the supreme court, Huang Songyou, who was sentenced to life imprisonment on corruption and bribery charges.
