Tagore Commemorated

The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) recently held a seminar on Rabindranath Tagore in Beijing, which marked the launch of a series of celebrations around China for the 150th birth anniversary of the Nobel laureate. A great poet, novelist, musician, painter and playwright, Tagore's works laud peace, humanity, freedom and justice. He made two visits to China in his life, during which he befriended a number of leading figures in Chinese literary circles in the early 20th century, such as Guo Moruo, Bing Xin and Xu Zhimo. The celebration for his birthday is part of the program that designates 2011 as the Year of China-India Exchange.
