18 Chinese Energy Firms among Global Top 250

The 2011 Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings were recently released during the Singapore International Energy Week, with 18 companies from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong included on the list.

The Platts top 250 list was compiled based on the 2010 financial performance of energy companies worldwide in terms of their assets, revenue, profits and returns on investment. The energy companies are ranked on a global scale as well as a regional scale, and each company's rank within its industry is also listed.

As one of the 18 Chinese companies on the list, PetroChina ranked fourth worldwide and retained its top status in the Asia-Pacific region. The oil giant had already reached 12th worldwide on the list a decade ago, with total assets of 51 billion U.S. dollars. At present, its assets amount to 255 billion U.S. dollars, and its annual profits are 7.5 times what they were 10 years ago.

In addition, Sinopec has also risen from 17th place 10 years ago to eighth place, and it has become one of the world's leading energy companies.
