Traditional Chinese morality encourages us to lend a hand to people in need. Charity is by no means an investment that yields financial returns. However, recent scandals in China's philanthropy world discourage donors. We see funds are misused by some officials or siphoned off to sponsor their acquaintances. Though malpractice tainted only a few staff members, the damage done to the concerned organizations is tremendous, and those expecting their assistance are those who suffer most. We expect more transparent charities to ensure the proper use of donations. We hope the funds can really find their way to those in need and help them to overcome difficulties and live better lives.
