Since its debut in 1896, La Boheme has been famous for its magnificent musical ballad, its delicate emotion and its theme of true and enduring love. The seemingly everlasting classic is Puccini at his best, integrating the idealism of youth, the travails of life and love, the power of art, and the dignity of persistence in the face of loneliness. The mournful but touching scenes have spoken to generation after generation for over 100 years, and still stir excitement in countless hearts.

The NCPA's version made its debut at the venue's first opera festival in 2009. The director Chen Xinyi strikes out boldly with a fresh conception of the opera, setting the story in Beijing 798 Art Zone, the heart and engine of China's contemporary art community so well known among Chinese people and art collectors around the world.
