"China has no intention of ruling the world. But if you continue to see yourself as the center of the world, if you see yourself as the soul holder of all truths, right beliefs and correct values, then you will always find it uncomfortable when you realize that the world is full of diversity," said Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying in an interview with Der Spiegel when told that some Westerners believe that China wants to shift the balance of the global economy to its advantage. During the interview, Fu spoke frankly on questions ranging from the military budget to democracy, Pakistan to the Dalai Lama. "We don't view ourselves as a superpower. You are not going to see China become a new U.S. or Soviet Union. You are going to see a culturally nourished country with a big population that is more content, happy and full of purpose. And it will be a friend to the world. There is no reason to worry about China," Madam Fu concluded.
