Space Tourism Provides New Dimensions
Appropriately enough, China's first and largest satellite launch base aims to give local tourism a boost by building major tourist attractions related to aerospace technology. Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center lends northwest China an authentic outer space-themed point of interest which Jiuquan City will extend and balance with destinations highlighting its cultural heritage and modern accomplishments.
Jiuquan's five-year tourism development plan for 2011 to 2015 includes building new attractions and opening up existing spaces for public use and enjoyment, with the Exhibition Hall of Dongfeng Range History in its central core. An aerospace-themed cultural town and additional interactive aerospace experience programs and facilities are expected to attract fun-seeking and knowledge-hungry vacationers.
The satellite launch center, around which it all revolves, was established in 1958, just 210 km from downtown Jiuquan which rests in Gansu's desert region. It is the nation's only manned spacecraft launch center. |
