China's First Blue-Ray Disc Production Line Kicks off
 |
To lower production costs, Blue-ray disc production lines are moving to China from Japan and the ROK. | Blue-ray disc manufacturing has started on the Chinese mainland in Shanghai, fueling the country's high-definition entertainment business. Blue-ray discs have a storage capacity of up to 50GB, six times the volume of ordinary DVDs. They are fully compatible with high-definition televisions and 7.1-channel surround sound. The name Blue-ray comes from the 405-nanometer blue-violet lasers that are used to read and write data.
Built with a total investment of RMB 70 million, the Shanghai production line is a big step for the high-definition video industry in China, and it claims to be the most advanced blue-ray disc manufacturing facility in the world. Its production capacity accounts for more than 70 percent of global output. Each month it is able to manufacture 500,000 BD25 discs or 400,000 BD50 discs. The production facility is being watched closely by film companies and the entertainment industry at home and abroad. |
