Central and Western Regions Invite Foreign Investment

In October 2008 a Hong Kong company invested in the construction of the tallest building in west China, in Chongqing.

The revised Catalogue of Priority Industries for Foreign Investment in the Central and Western Regions came into effect in January 2009. The new catalogue expands the field and scope of opening-up in the central and western regions and includes 126 new and 154 modified items. They encompass follow-up industrial development technologies for key national ecological protection and development projects, such as reclamation from agriculture of forests and pastures, and water-saving irrigation techniques. Main automobile component manufacture and integrated development and utilization of competitive resources are main features of the catalogue. It also includes value-added telecommunication operations, development and operation of tourism, and services such as the setting up and operation of urban gas pipeline networks, heating and water supplies, and water drainage systems.
