Cloned Transgenic Goat with Human Hepatocyte
Two cloned transgenic goats were born in the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural and Reclamation Sciences. They are China’s first cloned transgenic goats carrying human hepatocyte. This is a significant development in terms of rehabilitating human livers and reproducing excellent breeders. The new method employed to breed these two black transgenic goats is innovative in that scientists first obtained human hepatocyte gene fragments from human blood, then planted these gene fragments into donor cells (the donor cells all came from well-differentiated somatic cells, which contain all the genetic information of a human body). Finally, they transferred the nucleus of the donor cell to the oocyte, whose nucleus has been removed, to clone the transgenic goat. Material containing liver regeneration genes can be extracted from the milk of this kind of goat. It is helpful in treating liver disease, accelerating hepatocyte regeneration, and boosting hepatocyte functions. |
