Snow Lotus Cures Heart Disease

Scientists from Shanghai and Hong Kong working together have found that snow lotuses growing on high mountains contain the natural ingredient acacetin, which can restrain atrial fibrillation. The scientists also synthesized acacetin successfully, since snow lotuses are a rare species.

Atrial fibrillation – the most common form of heart rhythm disorder -- increases the risk of stroke and heart failure. It is caused by Ikur, a special bioelectrical current. The acacetin extracted from snow lotuses can restrain such bioelectrical currents and hence treat heart rhythm disorder. Experiments on mice have also shown that acacetin is a promising antiarrhythmic agent with low toxicity.
