Shanghai announced that a Disneyland Park will be built in the city. The project is scheduled for construction in the Huanglou area, a zone between the outskirts of Chuansha and Nanhui in Pudong New District. It will take a few dozen minutes to drive from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to the park. According to certain regulations, tourists can stop over for a visa-free tour of Shanghai for up to 48 hours when transiting.

The price, which both sides found difficult to reach agreement on, was finally determined under the influence of the financial crisis. The first phase of the project will cover an area of four square kilometers, while the whole project will be spread over eight square kilometers. After the announcement was made, statistics showed that property prices in the Chuansha area in the southeast of Pudong New District increased, going against the general trend of falling prices in the property market. According to the requirements of the American partner, Shanghai will probably also open a Disney Channel.
