Premier Li Keqiang’s U.K. Visit

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s four-day trip to Britain in June is expected to energize the China-Britain comprehensive strategic partnership, which sees its 10th anniversary this year, and whose strategic, reciprocal and global significance continues to grow.

The trip, Li’s first to Britain since taking office in March last year, marks another major diplomatic event between China and Europe following President Xi Jinping’s Europe tour in late March.

During his visit the Chinese premier met with Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister David Cameron. Li spoke at the global economic roundtable he co-chaired with British Prime Minister David Cameron and at China-Britain Financial Forums. He also gave speeches at top British think tanks.

The Chinese premier proposed during the meeting with his UK counterpart that China and Britain expand bilateral trade to reach a target of US $100 billion by 2015, and that they constantly consolidate the political foundation of bilateral relations and promote common growth and inclusive development, so accelerating development of Sino-British ties.

Cameron, for his part, said that Britain attaches great importance to its relationship with China and is willing to hold sincere dialogues and deepen cooperation in the fields of trade, finance, education, science, civil nuclear energy, and high-speed railways.
