Protecting the Long March Legacy: Liu Qibao

Liu Qibao, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, recently called for a continuation of the Long March legacy, a staggering trek which protected the Red Army from Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek's troops from 1934-1936.

The revolutionary culture reflects the minds and concepts of the CPC, and forms and promotes the values central to China's socialist society, Liu said on trips to Jinggangshan, Ruijin, Xunwu and Yudu - cities and counties in Jiangxi Province - where the Red Army rose up after the CPC members had been purged by Chiang's belligerent policies in 1927.

Liu asked the people to react to the recent remarks made by President Xi Jinping, who promulgated the Long March spirit and called for people to pass it on.

During his speech, Liu criticized rumors that skew and twist the epic adventure led by the CPC and vowed to defend the glory of the heroes and heroines.

During the Long March, the Red Army crossed snow-capped mountains and plodded through grasslands to survive the Kuomintang's annihilation plans and eventually settled down near the borders of Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia in 1936.
