Trudeau Promotes Canadian Businesses

By staff reporter ZHOU LIN

"We're happy to see the new government's changing policies. Prime Minister Trudeau's aim during his trip to China is to improve bilateral relations between China and Canada. Frankly speaking I think he has been very successful," journalist Sarah Scott of the Canadian English language newspaper the National Post, based in Toronto, told China Today during the G20 Summit in Hangzhou.

Scott said that the Canadian contingent was gratified at the signing between Canadian and Chinese companies of 56 new commercial contracts and agreements.

The joint press release by the People's Republic of China and Canada on September 1 announced commercial signings worth US $1.2 billion (RMB 8 billion), thus reflecting the breadth of the Canada-China commercial relationship, which involves people and investments, partnerships, and collaborative ventures.

Federal Minister of International Trade Chrystia Freeland was also present at the G20 Hangzhou Summit information center, and gave interviews to both Chinese and foreign media representatives.

Freeland said that the agreements between two countries denote growth opportunities for Canadian companies in key priority sectors, and that they therefore reflect an inclusive and sustainable commitment to innovation and the environment, a strong role for small and medium-sized enterprises, and a common focus on open trade and investment.

China is playing an increasingly important role in shaping world politics and driving global economic growth. Canada, meanwhile, is working to renew ties with China to help promote the economy, strengthen the middle class, and develop long-lasting ties between the peoples of both countries.

"China is now playing a unique global role as the world's second largest economy and also among the emerging economies. I think the G20 Summit constitutes a great opportunity for both developed and developing countries to meet," Scott said.
