Supreme Procuratorate Accepts State-level Bribery Inquiry

China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) on Feb. 28 accepted a bribery inquiry, the first of its kind since the establishment of a national online archives of convicted bribers earlier this month, the SPP said on Feb. 29.

Three enterprises and two individuals are found to have bribery records among the 200 plus enterprises which have been inquired, according to a statement released by the SPP.

The SPP indicated that the inquiry is related to the construction industry, but declined to reveal more information for the reason of protecting the inquirer and the enterprises being inquired.

The statement said that relevant departments will strengthen supervision in accordance with the inquiry results, in a bid to better combat corruption and bribery in construction fields.

Launched on Feb. 16, the online archives interconnect all local databases for convicted bribers, making their names available across the country for public inquiry. Prior to this, there was no national listing.
