400 Million

As the world's population was estimated to have hit the seven billion mark at the end of October 2011, the National Population and Family Planning Commission declared that China's family control policy has prevented 400 million births over the past 30 years, postponing the attainment of this seven billion figure by five years. Since the introduction of China's birth control policy, its share of world population has fallen from 22 percent to 19 percent.
