Opera: Butterfly Lovers

Place: National Center for the Performing Arts

Time: December 31, 2011-January 3, 2012

Butterfly Lovers is a Chinese opera classic. In 2010, the opera was reinterpreted by the Pibada Opera Company of North Korea and this adaptation has finally made it to the Beijing stage. Based on Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai's thousand-year love story, Pibada's performance incorporates high-level artistic ingenuity in the form of singing, stage art, clothing and set design. The beauty of the Butterfly Lovers story, integrated with North Korea's performance and musical know-how and combined with elements drawn from North Korean traditional singing drama and dancing, is truly not to be missed.
