Chinese Composer Wins International Award

The City of Hamburg recognized Tan Dun as one of the most extraordinary composers of our time by deciding to award him the prestigious Bach Prize. This prize is awarded once every four years and is the highest honor the city bestows on a cultural figure. Tan Dun will receive the award on August 18, 2012 at the legendary Laeiszhalle. This will be preceded by a performance by Tan with the NDR Orchestra and a rendition of Tan's new Percussion Concerto by Martin Grubinger. Tan's works can be heard both on stage and on the silver screen. His music brings scenes alive in popular films such as Don't Cry, Nanking, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero and The Banquet.
