The Significance of Writing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into the Constitution: Ensuring Party Leadership over All Work

A proposal on amendments to China's Constitution was officially approved during the second plenary session of the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, includingwritingXi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into China’s Constitution.  

Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era makes clear that the defining feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics is the leadership of the CPC, the greatest advantage of the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics is the leadership of the CPC, and the Party is the supreme political leadership in China. Adhering to the Party’s leadership is the basic policy in upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, as well as the supreme political principle in China’s political and social activities.

The Constitution clearly states that the CPC is China’s ruling political party, which is the leadership core in exercising overall leadership and coordinating work in all areas. The Constitution is the legal basis for the Party’s long-term governance. It is important and of great significance to incorporate Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into the Constitution, so to better urge people around China to strengthen their consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, keep in alignment, and to uphold Xi Jinping's position at the core of the CPC and its Central Committee and to uphold the authority of the Central Committee and its centralized, unified leadership, as well as to let the CPC exercise its leadership in all areas of China’s endeavors, and advance law-based governance and law-based exercise of state power.
