SOM3 Lays Foundation for APEC Summit

The third Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM3) of the APEC 2014 has laid a solid foundation for the upcoming 22nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) in Beijing, according to Tan Jian, one of China's senior APEC representatives.

During the SOM3, held from Wednesday to Thursday, officials from 21 APEC members agreed on priorities for November's 2014 APEC, including advancing regional economic integration, promoting innovative development, economic reform and growth, and strengthening infrastructure connectivity, Tan told a press briefing after the meeting.

Over 3,000 representatives participated in the meeting and reached broad consensus on topics including health, combating corruption, food, customs, disaster mitigation, forestry and quality inspection, he said.

During the SOM3, China briefed all parties concerned on arrangements for the AELM, according to Tan.

The country also arranged for representatives from 21 APEC members to visit AELM venues including the China National Convention Center and Yanqi Lake, he added.

APEC leaders' week will comprise activities from Nov. 5 to 11 in Beijing, including the APEC CEO Summit, APEC Business Advisory Council and the AELM.
