China’s Comprehensive Advantages in Attracting Foreign Investment

According to the Ministry of Commerce, the main features of foreign investment in 2013 are as follows: actually utilized FDI in service sectors accounted for more than half of the total for the first time; investment by EU and the U.S. increased rapidly; actually utilized FDI in central and western China is above the national average.

From June 6 to 8, 2013, the 12th Fortune Global Forum was held in Chengdu with the theme “China’s New Future.” It was the first time the forum was held in western China, indicating a growing international interest in China’s central and western regions.

China’s central and western regions have abundant natural resources, low costs and reliable infrastructure. Moreover, the regions are following the industrial modernization of China’s eastern region, and conducting rational industrial distribution and development under a new unified planning. For these reasons western China is attractive to foreign investors. Statistical data from the Ministry of Commerce showed that in 2013 actually utilized FDI in central China reached US $10.1 billion, up 8.79 percent from the previous year, and actually utilized FDI in western China amounted to US $10.61 billion, up by 6.96 percent.

Along with investment growth driven by the global economic recovery, the Chinese government is positively promoting various reforms to attract foreign capital and optimize foreign investment structures. Thanks to the acceleration of industrialization, informatization and urbanization, foreign-funded enterprises have plenty of room for investment in China.
