Top Political Advisor Urges More Contributions to Policy-making
China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Tuesday said the new leadership of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) should make more contributions to central government policy-making.
Yu, the newly elected chairman of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, called for the leadership to "investigate thoroughly and strive to raise valuable, important comments and suggestions" surrounding the work of the country as well as the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Yu made the remarks at the first presidium meeting of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, following his election on Monday. Twenty-three others were elected vice-chairpersons during Monday's fourth plenary meeting of the first session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee.
Yu said the presidium meeting, an important platform for the CPPCC to fulfill its obligations, must adhere to "correct political orientation", raise valuable suggestions, promote democracy, and make the meeting more energetic and effective.
The first meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th CPPCC National Committee also opened on Tuesday. The meeting will conclude on Wednesday.
