Chinese Leaders Stress Work Style in Discussion with Lawmakers

Top Chinese leaders took part in panel discussions with national lawmakers from northeast China on Monday, stressing the importance of improving the Party's work style and calling for internal inspection to be carried out on a greater scale.

Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, urged officials to follow the Party's code of conduct when joining deputies to the National People's Congress from Liaoning Province.

As President Xi Jinping pointed out at an earlier panel discussion, Party officials should hold unwavering belief, seek integrity, keep away from vulgar interest, and resist harmful trends and crooked practices, Liu said.

They should have a stronger sense of duty and make genuine accomplishments, Liu added.

Wang Qishan, another member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, joined lawmakers from Jilin Province.

During the discussion, Wang called the system of internal inspection an important measure to strengthen intra-Party supervision, and pledged to gradually expand the scope of inspection to cover all local governments, departments and institutions.

At a panel discussion with lawmakers from Heilongjiang Province, Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli called for local officials to promote modern agriculture, revitalize the old industrial bases and ensure sustainable development of cities rich in resources.

He also proposed to build the border province into a "bridgehead" for China's opening up toward Russia and Northeast Asia.
