Yang Yuanqing: Strengthen Protection of Private Information Security
By staff reporter JIAO FENG
Yang Yuanqing, a CPPCC member and CEO of Lenovo, highlighted the dangers posed by the rapid advance of Internet technology. In an interview on March 6 at the second session of the 12th National Committee of CPPCC, Yang explained that the growing use of smartphones and similar gadgets is accompanied by higher risks from malware or identity theft. When users install or update applications, they are typically required to authorize the use of their personal information. Not only does this compromise the users' privacy, it also creates opportunities for lawbreakers. Manufacturers have a responsibility to close security loopholes on their products, Yang said, while the government has a duty to tighten supervisory regulations. Civil society also has a responsibility to nurture an environment which upholds honesty and discourages malfeasance.
