Cao Dewang: More Attention for Small Businesses
By staff reporter JIAO FENG
Cao Dewang, CPPCC member and president of one of the world's largest automobile glass manufacturers, called for the government to pay more attention to smaller enterprises at the ongoing session of the political advisory body. He said that half of the small and medium-sized factories in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, are idle due to crippling labor shortages or cost burdens. Medium-size, small and micro businesses contribute to up to 90 percent of GDP in developed countries, he added, but in China half of GDP comes from state-owned enterprises.
Cao also criticized the heavy tax burdens on corporations. He claimed that Chinese manufacturers have to pay 1.1 yuan in tax for every 2.1 yuan of profit.
