The China International Translation Contest

The China International Translation Contest 2013 is intended for translators in China and abroad who love Chinese culture and are dedicated to the translation of China's excellent contemporary works.

The CITC 2013 is aimed at encouraging the initiative and creativeness in the transmission of Chinese culture to the world, as well as at presenting Chinese culture to the world, extending the international influence of Chinese culture, and promoting the cultural prosperity of the whole world.

 

The CITC 2013 organizing committee will provide 30 contemporary Chinese short stories as source texts for translation. Participants may choose one of the stories to translate into one of the following languages: English, French, Russian, Spanish or Arabic. The participants shall send their translation entries to the committee office through the Internet or by mail before the deadline. Entries that have been published are not eligible for this competition.
Note:1) The stories to be translated are selected by Chinese Writers Association.
         2) Text to be translated: the texts will be Chinese short stories published after China’s reform and opening-up (1978), suitable for international publication, without any previous translations recognized by the author. The texts are all representative of China in some way.

 

Schedule

1)

Start date: September 2, 2013.

2)

Deadline: February 28, 2014. (as indicated by the post mark of the letter or date of the sent email.)

3)

Reviewing of entries: March to April 2014.

4)

Publication of winning translations: May to August 2014. Publications will be launched during the 2014 Beijing International Book Fair.

5)

The organizing committee reserves the right to publish winning translations by participants under its related publishers.

6)

Submitted translations shall not be returned to the participants, and those who have not been awarded prizes will not be notified.

1)

There will be one first prize of US$5,000, two second prizes (US$3,000), several third prizes (US$1,000) for each language. (More)

1. Download the application form (bilingual) and the letter of commitment and submit them together with your translation before February 28, 2014 (Beijing Time (GMT+0800)), to the organizing committee office via email or by mail.

2. Please include the original Chinese title at the top of your translation. Your translation should be saved as a WORD document:

Typeface: Times New Roman

Title: word size 16 and bold

Sub-title: word size 14 and bold

Third-level title: word size 12 and bold

Main body: word size 12

Line spacing: 1.5 times

3. Your translation should only be done in a language, with no contrast version.

4. Please do not include your name or any other personal information in your translation; otherwise the work will be unacceptable.

5. Only the first submitted version counts. Please do not submit any revised versions.
