China's former IOC member He Zhenliang dies

He Zhenliang, a former IOC member and vice president from China, died here on Sunday at the age of 85.

He, who was elected to the International Olympic Committee in 1981 and elected IOC vice president in 1989, died at a hospital in Beijing on Sunday afternoon, his family said.

Nicknamed "China's Mr. Olympics", He was instrumental in Beijing's successful bid for the right to host the 2008 Olympic Games.

He became a household name in China after delivering an emotional speech at the IOC session on July 13, 2001.
