Forum Held to Honor Chinese Ethics Model

Forum Held to Honor Chinese Ethics Model

The ninth forum on the morality of Chinese citizens held here over the past two days has called for deepening the "Learning from Lei Feng" campaign and seriously studying and implementing the essence of last October's Sixth Session of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

"Lei Feng is our model forever, and the Lei Feng Spirit is an immortal monument," Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said during his talk delivered to an audience of over 200 people from all walks of life.

The army soldier-turned-national ethics role model has been honored ever since the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong wrote an inscription of "Learning from Comrade Lei Feng" on March 5, 1963.

For half a century, Lei has been regarded as a role model for patriotism and those who are loyal to the Party and socialism.

Moreover, the young soldier, who died in a truck accident in 1962, has been hailed as someone who cared for the people, helped the needy and focused on his career.

In his speech, Liu called for displaying Lei Feng's Spirit under the new circumstances, in an attempt to promote the development of the socialist core values.
