Chinese Authorities Take to Social Media to Fight Drug Menace
China's National Anti-Drug Commission Office has opened up a Weibo account, on the popular micro-blogging platform in China titled "China Anti-Drug," to make it easier for the public to report any drug related incidents.
The social media campaign also aims to encourage greater public participation in the "National Anti-drug Campaign".
The platform is now divided into three channels, titled, "Anti-drug knowledge", "Anti-drug services" and "Participate in the Anti-drug campaign".
The "Anti-drug knowledge" section includes information on the harmful side effects of taking drugs and how to stay away from drug abuse.
Contact information of all the anti-drug education programs operating across China has been listed in the "Anti-drug services" section. Anyone who wants to report drug related cases can go to the "Participate in the Anti-drug campaign" section.
China's economy loses an estimated 500 billion yuan each year due to drug abuse. Around 49,000 of the registered drug users in China died in 2014.
