FM Calls for Objective Views of China

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Sunday called on some foreign countries to stop looking at China through "colored spectacles", expressing the hope that the world would have objective views of China.

"We hope the world will appreciate China's uniqueness and real national circumstances, and abandon their colored spectacles, or stereotyped perception about China, particularly psychological bias against China," Yang said at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the country's top legislature.

"I like oil paintings and Chinese traditional paintings. But if one tries to appreciate the Chinese painting with the criteria of oil painting, there may be a mistake here," he said.

Yang noted although China has scored great achievement in social and economic development, it is still a developing country with a big population and weak economic foundation and uneven development.

"There is still a long way to go to achieve modernization," he said.
