Foreigner's Views on China's Development (I)

One of the most prominent terms in today's media is “China's development.” Both domestically and internationally, news about China's development is laid out, explained, predicted, and analyzed by millions of people. With the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (十九大) currently taking place in Beijing, a number of young foreigners around China gave China Today their thoughts on what China's development means for them. They were asked the following questions:

1.      What's kept you in China?

2.      Regarding China's development, what are you most looking forward to in the future?

3.      What do you expect China to achieve in the next 5 or 10 years?

1.   For one, the cost of living provides me with a level of comfort that I never had the privilege of experiencing while living in the U.S. Also, access to a subway system that lets me travel around the city quickly is a tremendous advantage in Beijing! I no longer have to worry about car insurance, gas money, and other expenses that go towards regular maintenance. Most importantly, although there are always obstacles and challenges on the job, the work environment here has an entirely different feel.

2.    I would love to see how China can help the lower tier cities improve their infrastructure, provide more access to public needs, and increase social mobility so that there isn’t such a massive influx of people migrating to top-tier cities.

3.    I foresee that China will find a way to put a cap on housing prices, make outlying provinces more appealing to foreign talent, and start developing ways to improve and efficiently utilize the service industry.
