The One Voice Children’s Choir from the United States brings joy and solidarity through music on their New Year China tour.
“We are together. We are friends forever. Nothing can break the bond between you and me,” On December 30, 2025, these heartfelt lyrics, sung in both Chinese and English, filled the historic Erqi Theater in central Beijing. They were performed by 54 young vocalists from the One Voice Children’s Choir of Utah, U.S.A., joined on stage by a dozen students from the High School Affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University. Ranging in age from 5 to 18, the choir delivered a spectacular performance that visibly captivated the audience.

“We Are Together,” featuring a mix of Chinese and English lyrics, was the encore song of the choir’s New Year concert that day. This new addition to One Voice’s repertoire was written especially for China, a musical gift to their Chinese fans. Autumn, a choir member, told China Today, “We specially have this song for this tour. This is like a gift to our fans in China. We love them so much.”
The choir’s connection with China deepened last January when a video of them singing the melodious Chinese song “如愿 (Wish)” at Beijing’s Temple of Heaven went viral, amassing over a million views in a week. With a global social media following exceeding five million, their return to China at the end of 2025 was highly anticipated.
Spreading Love and Joy
“It’s amazing to see how much our Chinese fans love us. I love giving that energy back,” choir member Rachel told China Today.

True to their spirit of connection, on the New Year’s Eve, the choir visited Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH). After a performance in the main outpatient hall, they walked through various wards, offering songs to patients and staff. In the surgical building, their melodies reached departments from orthopedics to general surgery. In pediatric, obstetrics, and endocrinology wards, choir members joined patients and their families in making “福 (good fortune)” character rubbings, a traditional Chinese craft, sharing a moment of warmth and celebration.
A Journey of Learning
Many of the choir members have been to China before and are always keen to learn more about the country.
“This is my third time in China,” shared member Hazel. “We love exploring things here that are different from back home. It’s super cool to experience the contrasts.”
This commitment extends to their music. There are several Chinese songs in the choir’s repertoire, which they practise repeatedly to memorize the Chinese lyrics. And to learn the correct pronunciation, Rachel explained that the Chinese mother of one of their members transcribed the lyrics phonetically into English and provided recordings for the children to study independently.
Rachel, who has studied Chinese for seven years, often assists her peers. She said in the beginning she was inundated with peer queries about pronunciation, but gradually skills have improved. The choir also studies the meaning of the lyrics to sing with genuine feeling.
Their effort resonates deeply. “When we perform these songs, Chinese audiences often sing along,” said Rachel, who enjoys how music can bring different people together. “It’s so cool to perform here,” she said.
Bridges Through Music
Beyond the concert stage, the choir actively engages in cultural exchanges and community events across several Chinese provinces and municipalities, including Fujian, Shanghai, Hebei, and Guangdong.
On July 11, 2025, as part of the China-U.S. Youth Choir Festival in Fujian, they visited Fuzhou No. 16 Middle School in Fujian. There they performed with the school’s Yuying Choir and bonded over traditional Chinese crafts like making lacquer fans, cork carvings, and preparing jasmine tea.
“We are together. We believe in each other. Sisters and brothers. We are the hope this world needs.” The lyrics of “We Are Together” truthfully reflect the profound and enduring bond between the Chinese and American peoples. Across languages, cultures, and borders, music and kindness continue to connect hearts, reminding us that love and hope are cherished by all.
