Madagascan president appreciates Beijing Olympics

ANTANANARIVO-- Madagascan President Marc Ravalomanana expressed his joy upon his return here on Tuesday following his one-week stay in China, where he attended the opening ceremony of the 29th Beijing Olympic Games.

The president highlighted the achievements made by the Chinese government, especially the sport installations, which he described as unmatched professionalism for the Olympic Games.

Ravalomanana was especially pleased to see Madagascan athletes attending the games in Beijing, which helped them to mobilize and unite with youths from different countries without any distinction of race or religions under the Olympic slogan "One World, One Dream."

Recalling his stay in China, the president stressed on the external recognition of his government efforts, as it was showed in his award as honorary professor by Beijing City College.

President Ravalomanana told the media that the Chinese government expressed its willingness to support Madagascar to improve its athletes performance.

He said that he met and exchanged views with other presidents, namely US President George W. Bush and French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
