Some of the most noteworthy statistics of the day

Swimming
- Wednesday produced five world records in the Swimming competition, making Beijing 2008 the most successful Games for the sport in more than 30 years, with 15 world records already broken.
- Only twice in Olympic history have more Swimming world records been set on the same day. On September 4, 1972, and July 22, 1976, six world records were set in the sport.


Gymnastics Artistic
- A day after winning the Men’s Team event, China also triumphed in the Women’s event – the seventh time in history an NOC has won both Gymnastics Artistic Team events.


Cycling Road- Individual Time Trial
- Kristin Armstrong’s ( USA) Gold medal in the Women’s Individual Time Trial marked a record 900th Gold for USA in the history of the Olympic Games,
- Fabian Cancellara (SUI) won the Gold to become the fifth rider to win a medal in both the Individual Time Trial and the Individual Road Race at the same Olympic Games. He took Bronze in the Road Race.


Diving
- Dmitry Sauti (RUS) took the Silver medal in the Men’s Synchronised 3m Springboard, marking his eighth career Olympic medal.
- No other diver has won more than five medals at the Olympic Games.
