Swimming
- Michael Phelps (USA) triumphed in the Men’s 200m Freestyle, winning an all-time record equaling ninth career Olympic Gold medal.
- Aaron Peirsol (USA) set the 200th world record in the history of the Olympic Games, winning the Gold medal in the Men’s 100m Backstroke in 52.54 seconds.
Diving
- Chen Ruolin (CHN) and Wang Xin (CHN) won the Women’s Synchronised 10m Platform to collect the 100th Gold medal distributed in Diving events at the Olympics.
Football
- Heather O’Reilly (USA) scored the fastest goal in the history of Olympic Women’s Football, netting after 20 seconds of USA’s match against New Zealand.
Judo
- Ayumi Tanimoto (JPN) became just the third female judoka to retain an Olympic title when she won the Women’s – 3kg event at Beijing 2008.
Canoe/Kayak-Slalom
- Michael Martikan (SVK) won his second Olympic Gold medal in the Men’s Canoe (C1), winning gold again after a 12-year hiatus. He first won Gold at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. He won Silvers in Sydney and Athens.
- Benjamin Boukpeti (TOG) won Togo its first ever Olympic medal by taking the Bronze in the Men’s K1 event.
Equestrain – Evening
- The Team and Individual event in Evening were won by Germany, marking the first time since 1992 that one NOC had taken both Gold medals.
