Some of the most noteworthy statistics of the day.

General
- USA won their 100th medal at Beijing 2008 when Deontay Wilder (USA) lost in the Boxing Heavyweight semifinals and collected an automatic Bronze. It is the eighth time USA have won 100-plus medals at an Olympics.
- A record of 85 different NOCs have won medals during Beijing 2008 with 44 events remaining. The previous record was 80, set at Sydney 2000.

Athletics
- Tirunesh Dibaba (ETH) became the first woman to win both the 5000m and the 10,000m at one Olympic Games.
- Jamaica won the Men’s 4x100m Relay in a world record 37.10 sec. Usain Bolt was part of the team and won his third Gold at Beijing 2008. He is the 14th athletes in Athletics to win at least three Golds in one Olympics and only the second since 1956. Carl Lewis won four Gold medals at Los Angeles 1984.

Beach Volleyball
- Todd Rogers/ Philip Dalhausser (USA) won the Gold in the Men’s Beach Volleyball. For the first time since the introduction of Beach Volleyball to the Olympic programme in 1996, the same NOC won both the Men’s and the Women’s Gold.

Canoe/Kayak Flatwater
- Belarus won their first Gold in Canoe/Kayak Flatwater when the brothers Andrei and Aliaksandr Bahdanovich won the Men’s Canoe Double (C2) 1000m. Only 15 minutes later, Belarus took their second Flatwater Gold when they won the Men’s Kayak Four (K4) 1000m.

Table Tennis
- Zhang Yining (CHN) won the Women’s Singles event. She has won every event in which she has competed at the Olympics; Singles in 2004 and 2008, Doubles in 2004 and Team in 2008.
- Wang Nan (CHN) lost the Women’s Singles final but still became the most successful Olympic Table Tennis player with four Golds and one Silver.
