Some of the most noteworthy statistics of the day.

Athletics
- Veronica Campbell-Brown (JAM) emerged victorious in the Women’s 200m, marking a clean sweep for Jamaica in the sprint events (Men’s and Women’s 100m and 200m). It was the first time an NOC other than USA had achieved this.

Beach Volleyball
- Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor (USA) won their second successive Gold medal in the Women’s Beach Volleyball competition. As in Athens in 2004, Walsh/May-Treanor did not lose a single set on their way to the Gold.

Diving
- Chen Ruolin (CHN) won the Women’s 10m Platform Gold medal, handing China its seventh Gold medal from seven Diving events at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Modern Pentathlon
- Andrei Moiseev (RUS) took the Men’s Modern Pentathlon Gold. His 5,632 points broke the 28-year-old Olympic record of 5,566 set by Anatoly Starostin (URS) in 1980.

Softball
- The final Olympic Softball match before the sport’s omission in the London 2012 Olympic Games produced a shock result with Japan beating USA to the Gold. USA failed to collect its fourth Gold in as many Olympic Softball tournaments.

Water Polo
- Danielle de Bruijn (NED) scored seven goals in the Women’s Waterpolo final, leading Netherlands to a defeat of USA and the Gold medal. De Bruijn’s tally equaled the number of goals in the first Women’s Waterpolo final in 2000.
